ABOUT:
ACT Region Veteran Golfers Association Inc
The ACT Veterans Golf Association was formed in the early 1970's. By 1973 the first Men’s ACT Stroke Championship was held and has been held during the Melbourne Cup week in November since then with the exception of 2006 when the event was not conducted. Since 1998 the championships have been held in conjunction with a Medley week of golf.
In 1997 the constitution was amended to include the term Monaro in its name. In 2008 the Association was incorporated under the ACT Corporations Act.
Membership within the association is open to male golfers 55 years and over who are financial members of a golf club. Being a member of the Association provides veteran golfers the opportunity to play on all clubs within the region. All players must have a current Golf Australia Handicap. Veteran's competition is usually held on a Monday morning, except after a long weekend when the game is held on the Tuesday. The usual competition is a stableford event however the two championship rounds in November/December are stroke rounds.
The program ensures the games are played at a different course each week. As well as providing a different venue each week Veteran Golfers are given the opportunity to form new friendships with others who share a passion for golf. Membership of the association cost $10.00 joining fee plus $10.00 per year.
Membership can be arranged by simply contacting the President, Secretary or Captain who will register the prospective member for the competition and fees can be paid on the day of play. It goes without saying that new members are most welcome.
