The ACT Region Veterans Golf Association (ACTRVGA, the Association) was formed in the early 1970’s. By 1973 the first ACTRVGA Open Stroke Championship (OSC) was held during the Melbourne Cup week in November up until 2006 when the event was not conducted. A short while after that the OSC was moved to the first two weeks of December each year, where it currently resides.

In 1997 the constitution was amended to include the term Monaro in its name. In 2008 the Association was incorporated under the ACT Corporations Act and the word region was included in lieu of Monaro at the behest of the ACT Regulatory Authority.

A male or female golfer of at least 55 years of age, who is a member of an affiliated golf club in the district covered by the ACT Monaro District Golf Association as defined by the New South Wales Golf Association; and has a current Australian Golf Union handicap, can apply to join the ACTRVGA. The Association provides members the opportunity to play at the following clubs (when fixtured): Braidwood, Belconnen, Capital, Cooma, Fairbairn, Federal, Goulburn, Gold Creek, Gungahlin, Murrumbidgee, Queanbeyan, Duntroon, Royal Canberra, Yass, and Yowani. The weekly competition is normally held on a Monday. Where a public holiday falls on a Monday, the game is held on the Tuesday. The usual weekly competition is a stableford event. The two championship rounds in December are stroke rounds.

The program ensures the games are played at a different course each week.  As well as playing a different venue each week members are given the opportunity to form new friendships with others who share a passion for golf. As of 11 April 2024, the cost of initial membership includes a $50.00 joining fee plus $20.00 for the year. Renewals are $20.00.

Membership can be arranged by simply contacting the President, Secretary or Captain who will register the prospective member for the competition and fees can be paid on the day of play.  New members are most welcome.

Members can access and book tee off times up to three weeks ahead of a fixtured event.

Another benefit of being a member of the ACTRVGA is that it provides members with the opportunity to play in interstate veterans competitions, including the national championships.

The ACTRVGA is affiliated with the Australian Veteran Golfers Union (AVGU) and along with other states and territories provides a delegate to the AVGU.
